Knowing the importance of the 2024 election; if you had an opportunity to use the most effective way to get people to vote this year, would you pass it up?
This Sunday, October 13th, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, join UULM-MD and the Maryland Poor People’s Campaign (PPC) in canvassing low-income, infrequent voters in Hagerstown. We know that speaking with people directly, in person is the best way to encourage people to exercise their right to vote, and now we offer you an opportunity to join us in making a difference! Going door-to-door with others is safe, easy and very rewarding. When we canvassed with the national UUA in Philadelphia, last month, we enjoyed the experience and were thanked several times by voters for our efforts.
We are proud to join with PPC in reaching out to their target communities which could be “the swing vote.” As the PPC states: “We know that if the 1.1 million poor and low-income, infrequent voters in Maryland voted at the same frequency as those with higher incomes, they could change what is possible up and down the ballot!” Indeed, Maryland has a contested Senate and Congressional Race in the 6th District, which includes Hagerstown, MD.
Nationally, the PPC strategy is to focus on the top 10 zip codes with the lowest income/wealth in each state and contact infrequent voters who live there. In Maryland, that means 8 zip codes in Baltimore City, one in Cumberland, and one in Hagerstown. The PPC has handouts that include a candidate scorecard comparing the positions of both major parties and their presidential candidate on multiple issues, from minimum wage to clean air and water, to abortion, gun violence and prescription drug prices. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we are allowed to share these scorecards as long as they are based on objective criteria.
Please use the button below to sign up to volunteer to help make sure every eligible voter has the chance to make their voice heard in this election.
Thank you,
