Health Care and Reproductive Rights in the 2025 Session

Lowering Prescription Drug Costs for All Marylanders Now Act (HB 424/SB 357) -  Expand the Prescription Drug Affordability Board with authority to make limits on high drug costs to all Marylanders (currently only applies to state and local government employees.

Sunset Repeal Maryland Health Benefit Exchange - State-Based Young Adult Health Insurance Subsidies (SB 5/HB 297)- This bill would extend this successful program which provides subsidies to help young adults obtain affordable health insurance, which has reduced the numbers of young adults (18-34) not insured. This program has increased insurance coverage for Black young adults by 46% and Hispanic young adults by more than 50% year over year compared to an overall enrollment increase for all young adults of 27%.

This Legislation would enable our state to continue to provide subsidies to low-income young adults who purchase health coverage through the Maryland Health Exchange.

The pilot program in 2025 will assist approximately 64,000 young adults have coverage for health insurance.
